Herb Brownett, CCIFP

President - Brownett & Associates, LLC

 

Prior to forming his consulting firm, he was CFO of Brubacher Excavating, Inc., Executive V.P of Textura Corp, Senior V.P of Finance of The Norwood Company and V.P. of Finance of Clark Construction.  A construction financial professional for more than 30 years, he holds a BS and MBA in Finance/Accounting from Florida State University.  He is also a graduate of the Executive Strategic Planning program at The Wharton School of Business.

A CFMA member since 1988, Herb has been National Chairman of CFMA, National Chairman of the ICCIFP and President of the Greater Washington DC Chapter. He is currently active with the Philadelphia Chapter. He holds CCIFP Certificate #1 and is a recipient of the CFMA Danny Parrish Leadership Award and the ICCIFP Vision and Leadership Award.

 

Herb is a frequent presenter at various CFMA Conferences and Chapters.  A contributing author to CFMA Building Profits magazine, he has also been published by the Journal of Construction Accounting and Taxation and Construction Executive Magazine.

Tom Burt

Executive Vice President | General Manager- The Scarlett Group

 

Based in Jacksonville, Florida, Tom is a technology verteran working with both the enterprise and SMB markets for over 30 years.

Before joining The Scarlett Group, Tom served as Vice President/General Manager of the Southeast Division of Neopost. Neopost is an international software/hardware company headquartered in lle-de-France.

Most recently, he was the minority partner in Modular Document Solutions, a cold start up Sharp dealership sold to DEX in 2016.

 

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tom studied at Westminster College and holds a BA from the University of Pittsburgh. Continuing education includes International Senior Management Program, HEC Parris. HEC is ranked as one of the world’s top 3 business schools for Executive Education.

Tom lead the decision and development of the CRM Salesforce.com for the Neopost Dealer network. Ultimately, his team’s Salesforce.com version was adopted internationally at Neopost. Additionally, he led the decision and development of what became Neopost’s Price/Configure/Quote application.

Tom is passionate about delivering an exceptional customer experience. His personal efforts led to the sale and successful implementation of the claim payment application for Citizen Property Insurance. Working with PRIDE, Tom was instrumental in the sale and execution of today’s SunPass pay-by-tag program.

In February of 2017, Tom was introduced to the President of The Scarlett Group, Brian Chancey, by a founding investor. Tom joined Scarlett enthusiastically, developing marketing and sales for the organization. The Scarlett Group is a leading IT Consulting and IT Solutions provider which offers many services including cybersecurity, disaster recovery and managed services.

Alan Clark, CPA, MBA

Partner - Smith, Adcock and Company LLP

 

Alan K. Clark, CPA, MBA is a partner in the accounting firm of Smith, Adcock and Company LLP  where he focuses principally on the construction industry as well as high income / high net worth individuals, His clients include major general contractors and specialty contractors in commercial, heavy and highway construction. In addition to covering federal and state tax issues, Mr. Clark's 40+ years of experience include accounting and auditing, financial reporting, representation before the IRS, and other services to contractors. He is a frequent speaker and writer on construction industry issues.

 

Nick Costa

Surety Underwriter - Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance

 

Nick is a contract surety underwriter at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance handling the Southeast region. Nick has over 15 years of surety experience working with contractors ranging from small start-ups to large multi-national firms. He was previously with The Travelers Companies where he was responsible for marketing and underwriting in Florida. He is a past President of The Florida Surety Association. Nick holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Florida.

 

Anthony Dolce

Vice President - Chubb North America

 

Tony Dolce is a Vice President in Chubb’s North America Financial Lines Claims division. He is responsible for claims within the Cyber line of business, working closely with the Cyber Claims team.  Over the course of his 18 year tenure at Chubb, Tony has handled several large cyber claims, including major data breach and privacy cases.  He frequently speaks at industry events and also serves on various cyber-related committees.

 

While at Chubb, Tony has managed several groups handling Financial Lines claims, including Cyber, Media, Lawyers and Miscellaneous Professional Liability.  Most recently, Tony was the Eastern Regional Manager for Large Commercial D&O claims.  Prior to joining Chubb, Tony was an attorney at Murtha Cullina, specializing in insurance coverage and commercial litigation.  Tony also served as the law clerk for the Chief Judge of the Connecticut Appellate Court.  He earned his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Connecticut and is a member of the Connecticut state and federal bars.   Tony also holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designations.

 

Jay Fowler, CISA, CRISC

Senior Vice President, Consultant- The Scarlett Group

Working out of the Jacksonville, FL Headquarters, Jay provides risk management, consulting and assurance services to private and public organizations.

 

With over 20 years of experience, Jay is comfortable in environments from the boardroom to the shop floor. He has extensive technical and operational knowledge in many business domains including; Healthcare, Financial, Logistics, Design/Build and Engineering. He has delivered assignments involving governance, risk management, people, systems and processes, as well as regulatory compliance, enterprise risk, internal audit, IT audit, business process controls, privacy, IT threat and risk assessments and third-party control reports (SSAE/16).

 

Prior to joining Scarlett, Jay held a C-Level position with a major telecommunication firm, and a VP Level title in Pharmaceuticals. With his vast experience in risk and controls expertise in large trans- formational projects, Jay provides clarity, recommendations and practical solutions to executive and board stakeholders in complex IT implementations, business process improvement initiatives, postmerger synergies, operational cost reductions and systems conversions.  Jays a designated specialist in IT and IT audit, and holds the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) Certification. Aaron Hill

Contract Underwriting Officer - Atlanta, GA

 

Aaron began his surety career at USF&G in Atlanta including roles in the branch and regional offices then spent six years on the agency-side as a Contract Bond Manager at Yates Insurance.  After a brief stint with Zurich in Tampa, moved back to Atlanta with Liberty Mutual Surety in 2007.  During his time with LMS, Aaron has been in various field and home office management roles currently overseeing contract underwriting in Tennessee, Arkansas and the Carolinas along with a portion of Florida and Georgia.

In his spare time, Aaron umpires youth baseball in metro Atlanta and has also visited every current MLB stadium.

Ryan Merryman, CPA, CFF, CITP, CFE

Ryan is a Principal in CliftonLarsonAllen LLP’s forensic and valuation services practice and is based in California. He is an experienced financial consultant specializing in fraud and misconduct investigations, forensic data analysis, litigation consulting, and fraud risk management.

 

He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified in Financial Forensics, Certified Information Technology Professional and a Certified Fraud Examiner. Prior to CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, Ryan was a Manager with KPMG LLP’s forensic group and also served in their audit practice.

Margie Morris

Vice-President - Guignard Company

 

The Surety business is second nature to Margie Morris. Margie began her surety career in 1987 working for a surety bond only agency. She then joined a small surety, Amwest Surety and then worked for an MGA opening her own branch office. A few years later she transitioned to a leading surety company, Reliance/Travelers, where she worked with contractors whose annual revenues went from $1MM to $100MM.

Her career path has provided her with a strong working knowledge of both the agency and company side of the business which is why she joined Guignard Company in 2002. Margie’s analytical skills, understanding the construction scope, and clients' business needs, has abled her to assist many contractors in expanding, buying, and selling their business.

“My objective at Guignard Company is to raise the bar on what contractors should expect from their surety agent.”

Margie is a member of and works actively with a select number of construction industry trades and community organizations. Most notably, Margie is an officer/board member of the CFMA Central Florida Chapter, and is involved at the National CFMA level. She is also a member of the NASBP, GCBX, ABC and AGC Association. Margie also served as Vice President of the Florida Surety Association during her tenure at Reliance/Travelers. She has been the guest speaker at bonding seminars for the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction at University of Florida and the Florida Department of Transportation. She regularly holds speaking engagements throughout the state to National Regional CPA firms and other construction related industries.

Margie is a native of Florida and holds a Masters Degree in Business from Webster University, Saint Louis, Missouri. She attended Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Florida where she earned an Undergraduate Degree in Finance with a Minor in Marketing.

 

Michael Moyer

Surety Underwriter - Travelers

 

Michael Moyer is a 5-year Surety Underwriter at Travelers in the Construction Services Department. Michael is well versed in the Florida, particularly, the South Florida market. His experience ranges from underwriting international to small contractors and navigated through various underwriting topics to include business succession and continuity planning, modular construction, and alternative project deliver methods.

 

Before working for Travelers, Michael served 4-years in the United States Marine Corps, and following his service, studied Finance at the University of Central Florida.

 

Michael’s goal is to assist Contractors in becoming best in class by navigating through a time of technological advancements and labor constraints.

Marisol Torres-Gomez, CPA, is an Audit Partner at Cherry Bekaert. Marisol has more than 20 years of public accounting experience serving mid-size to large privately and publically held companies.
